Liz Firth: Calligrapher-Lettering Artist-Designer
Based in Newcastle NSW, Liz is a freelance designer who became intrigued by the “art of beautiful writing” four years ago in 2013. Since then she has been a dedicated devotee of the calligraphic tradition, attending workshops of international calligraphers such as Luca Barcellona & Massemo Pollelo (Italy), Elmo van Slingerland (Netherlands), Don Marsh & Thomas Ingmire (USA) Christopher Haanes (Norway), Denis Brown (Ireland) and Australian Calligraphers Gemma Black, Deirdre Hassad and Olive Bull.
Liz works in a variety of calligraphic styles, but has a penchant for the highly flourished and ever popular traditional Copperplate and Spencerian scripts. Liz is able to produce calligraphy for a variety of outlets, such as logos, client commissions, wedding stationery (invitations, rsvp’s, save the date cards, envelopes) and other formalised occassions. Upon request, Liz has produced work in the more loose, modern calligraphic styles that are becoming increasingly popular today.
In 2015, Liz was awarded the “Standard of Excellence” for her calligraphy at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and in 2016 she was included in the line up of lettering artists for the International “Typism” Book 3 and a participating artist for the “Made it, Make it” Conference Letterpress Exhibition.
Liz is also a member of the Calligraphy Society of Victoria and IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting). You can follow Liz and view her work on instagram.
